FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GOSHEN, Ind.—Edward Albee’s classic play, “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?,” about the dangerous games of two married couples opens at New World Arts this Friday, March 5, at 8 p.m.

In the show, Martha and George host a new professor, Nick, and his wife, Honey, for an evening at their house, but the guests are soon embarrassed and enthralled as Martha and George’s scathing banter turns serious. As the evening progresses and alcohol is consumed, Honey and Nick begin to join in the battle where all must address their dark ghosts.

Aaron Nichols of Elkhart directs the show. Melissa Gard of South Bend and Kevin Egelsky of Elkhart play Martha and George, respectively. Christy Burgess and Scott Jackson, both of South Bend, play Honey and Nick.

Along with other themes, the show largely examines the idea of people’s public and private facades, and the unmasking of those.

“They play games,” Egelsky said, “and they play very dangerous games.”

Those games go beyond cards or sports, but into discussion about their true feelings and thoughts on others, risky territory in any relationship.

“It’s a study in humanity,” he said later.
