FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GOSHEN, Ind.—President Nixon’s televised interviews with British journalist, David Frost, and the story behind them come to the stage as Peter Morgan’s “Frost/Nixon” at New World Arts in Goshen, opening Feb. 12.
In 1977, President Richard Nixon agreed to several interviews with David Frost, a British news reporter and comedian. While the unlikely duo formed a friendship off the set, they still battled on Frost’s show, Nixon listing all the good he’s done for the country and Frost trying to draw out what Nixon had given no other reporter: a confession.
Director Sam Yoder said the show reveals a different side of President Nixon often inaccessible to people who only know him through textbooks and Watergate history.
“You get to see Nixon on a redemptive journey,” Yoder said, adding that the interviews and eventual admission of involvement in Watergate were probably redemptive for more than the president alone.
“Maybe it was what was needed for healing, for the emotional healing of the nation. People really wanted to hear [an admission] from Nixon.”
Paul Hanft plays the part of President Richard Nixon in the show. Peter Sessions performs as David Frost and Geoffrey Owens plays Nixon’s aide, Jack Brennan.
Performances are Feb. 12, 13, 19 and 20 at 8 p.m. Opening night will include light refreshments as well.
Tickets are $8 for general admission and $5 for students and seniors. Buy tickets in advance at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/97629 or at Better World Books in downtown Goshen.
