Theater in the fast-lane: The Return of the 24/7 Theatre Festival at New World Arts
GOSHEN, Ind. — The clock is ticking. New World Arts in downtown Goshen is pleased to announce the return of the very popular 24/7 Theatre Festival. Beginning the night of January 25, the annual festival asks 7 groups to create, produce and present short scenes in 24-hours.
In recent years, the festival has become a traditional feature of New World Arts' programming, and has enjoyed wide participation and support from the downtown community. “This festival is a favorite with audiences,” said Laura Gouin, New World Arts artistic director. “You never know what you’re going to get and that makes this an exciting event to participate in.”
The festival begins at 11:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25th when seven chosen playwrights will meet at the Electric Brew. They will draw the gender of their characters and then begin writing. At 6:00 a.m. Saturday, January 26th, they will put their pens down and turn their new creations over to Gouin, who will assign directors and actors to each script.
7 chosen directors will arrive at 8:00 a.m. and each will be given a script and the names and resumes of two actors. They will have one hour to prepare before their actors arrive. At 9:00 a.m. rehearsals will begin and go until 4:00 p.m. The casts will then each have a 30 minute scheduled tech time.
24/7 performances will run twice on the night of the 2nd at 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. General admission is $10, $5 for students and seniors.
Spots are limited in this popular festival and time is running out; early registration for participants is highly recommended. If you are interested in participating in the festival, contact theatre@newworldarts.org or visit www.newworldarts.org.
